When can I expect to converse fluently in French?

There is no set time period to learn any language fluently. Students in all courses at the Alliance Française de York are encouraged to speak French from day one. It is recommended that you study at least 120 hours of French to be able to join in with unprepared conversations on topics covering everyday life (e.g. family, hobbies, work, travel).

You can still enjoy many of our cultural & social events, where speaking French is not a requirement. See our What's On? page for details.

As of October 2024, we are offering a Kids Club for children between 3 and 10 years old (from Nursery to Year 6). We also assist with tuition for GCSE and A level students. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
